Body Piercing is a form of body modification. It is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewelry may be worn.
Body piercing is an invasive procedure with risks. In a 2005 survey of 10,503 people over the age of 16 in England, complications were reported in 31% of piercings, with professional help being necessary in 15.2%. 0.9% had complications serious enough to require hospitalization.
Novoa MedSpa offers body piercing in a safe sterile environment with the use of a local anesthetic to minimize pain.
How it is performed
Dr. Novoa cleanses the site with an antiseptic, then a local anesthetic is applied to numb the site. He then proceeds to connect the piece of jewelry to the end of a twelve gauge to sixteen gauge hollow needle and threads the needle through the site to be pierced.
